Space based solar power may be the sleeper technology of the twenty-first century. A ring of geosynchronous power satellites would supply electrical transmission via diffuse microwave 24/7. The beams could be made diffuse so that they would not represent a hazard if anything, a plane for example, happened to wander into one. The fact that the transmission was continuous could represent a large amount of cumulative power and a low power density. The frequency of the beam could be tuned so that clouds and bad weather were invisible. Rain or clouds would look transparent to the beams and power would be uninterupted by weather. Also, a ring of of power satellites in 22,000 mile orbits would spur space industry.
