| Barrack Obama's association with rev Wright will probably sink his campaign. But here are some things to consider:
1) There is a need to get religion out of politics. The world has a long history of this--it doesn't work.
2) The Republicans are associated with many more religious fringe groups--everything from NY and N Orleans suffered at Gods' hands for immorality--which a lot of them (religious leaders) get caught doing, to supporting Isreal to bring the "rapture" in an all-out world killing war.
3) The thing really at issue here is the role of preachers in black, inner-city communities. Do they get out there in their rhetoric--yeah. Is it much different than Catholic Priests in Northern Ireland--no, not really.
The problem is that the American public is probably not ready to understand point 3. It is easy to imagine, if you are working with poor blacks in Chicago, or Irish Catholics under siege in Northern Ireland, that someone like Barrack could easily form a friendship with someone whose political views he doesn't share.
