Before the start of the primaries and the sub-prime mess, energy was front and center on the national stage. Pollution credits, nuclear power, Manhattan project for energy development, corn, and on and on. I believe the next bunch of successful entrepreneurs is going to realize one simple fact: that it’s all in the wastes stupid. As an example, what is the real cost of nuclear energy based on—is it building the plant, is it safety upkeep, is it uranium mining and processing—no, I don’t think so—it’s going to be waste disposal. Same with carbon intensive power like coal. The major issues with many of these schemes are going to center on the continuing cost and maintenance of waste disposal.
