History

One often wonders why humans, as a species, don't seem to learn from history. Naively, one might think that an essential qualification for an elected leader is that they have some credentials in history--like, for example, your doctor should have a medical degree. But perhaps it doesn't matter. It may be that what we do is more a characteristic of what we are rather than what we know. BTW, this is the premise of my novel Proteus Rising. As one of many examples of how this sad scenario plays out time after time, here is a recent talk by Gorbachev warning the Russian people of how history repeats itself...
